The international headquarters for Pro Performance Sports (owner of the SKLZ brand) is located in Carlsbad, California, a sports hotspot where we’re fortunate enough to test and use our training aids year-round. We believe in supporting the health and betterment of kids and community everywhere, and we not only create products that help to support that position, but we’re also closely involved with charitable organizations that follow the same beliefs. Through our support of and relationships with the Challenged Athletes Foundation and numerous local organizations we are constantly inspired and honored to be a part of their success.

MANAGEMENT TEAM

BRIAN ENGE, PRESIDENT

As president, Brian leads the management team to develop and execute the strategic plans for the company. Brian came to SKLZ from The Active Network and is known for his successful tenure as CEO of Zoot Sports. During his tenure at Active, Brian was responsible for the company’s consumer products business and developing programs for active sports participants. Brian has spent fifteen years in the sports apparel and footwear industry with a series of leadership positions including senior vice president of Saucony and president of Schoffel North America, an outdoor and ski apparel brand. Brian is active in the triathlon community and serves on the Board of Directors of San Diego Sports Innovators. He graduated from Harvard College and received his MBA from Harvard Business School. 

Brian is married to his college girlfriend, Ceci, and is a father of four active kids. He locally coaches soccer so he's often seen on local soccer and lacrosse fields with his kids. When he's not working or spending time with family, he's usually working out– running, cycling, swimming or yoga.

JEFF SLOVAK, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

As COO, Jeff is responsible for all aspects of operations including product sourcing, production planning and order management, warehousing and logistics. Jeff started his professional career at Deloitte & Touche where he contributed to and led audits for numerous companies across many industries. He then joined Fortune Brands' audit department where he performed audits for several global companies including Jim Beam, Swingline, Master Lock and Cobra Golf. After his time at Fortune Brands, Jeff worked in a variety of roles including vice president of finance for the Workspace Tools division at ACCO Brands. Jeff graduated from Miami University where he received a bachelor's degree in accounting, and then attended Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management where he received his MBA. 

Jeff played soccer at a high level throughout high school and continues to play competitively, and also slightly less competitively during lunch hour and after work pick-up games.

TIM BROADHEAD, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

As CFO, Tim is responsible for building best in class financial management. His transactional experience crosses many industries and he helps to serve organizations towards scalable operations solutions, with specific focus on operational and working capital efficiencies, as well as overall business leverage. Tim is a senior executive with over 25 years of experience and a successful track record with start-up, middle market, and Fortune 500 companies. Tim earned a B.S. in Business-Accounting from San Diego State University and was a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of California.

Tim is very passionate about health and fitness, was a lettered pitcher in college and played competitive ice hockey. Currently he enjoys surfing, skiing, golfing, running and spending time with his beautiful wife Cathy and their two children.

JOHN SCHULTE, VP INTERNATIONAL SALES

John joined Pro Performance Sports in 2005 as the VP of sales with nearly 20 years of experience in the sports business.  In 2008, John became responsible for both the international markets and golf category.  Prior to joining PPS, John developed an impressive track record of dramatically improving revenue, market share and profits for global leaders Nike, Mizuno and Easton. At Nike, John was the GM for the performance equipment categories within the just-established Equipment Division, and then became the category business director for team sports equipment where he led the development and launch of athlete-inspired products for the Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe regions. Prior to Nike, John was with Mizuno and Easton where he held several positions starting as the product manager for Mizuno Ball Gloves and Easton Bats at Easton Sports and ending as the director of marketing for baseball and softball at Mizuno USA before moving to Nike. John also held senior level management positions at Applied Applications, LLC and American Sports History where he directed sales and marketing efforts for the team and specialty sports market web ventures of the two companies. John holds an MBA in marketing and finance from the UCLA Graduate School of Management and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California, Davis. 

When he's not visiting global partners or running about the Carlsbad office, John can often be found pursuing the perfect round of golf or enjoying the outdoors with his family.

DAVID SCHULTZ, VP US SALES

As VP of sales, David is responsible for establishing and driving the US sales plan for SKLZ. He joined SKLZ after serving seven years as VP of sales at Timex where he led the sales strategy for the US Sport and Military businesses. David has over 16 years of sales and sales leadership experience with powerful brands including Black and Decker, Stanley, Newell Rubbermaid and Timex. Prior to joining Timex, David was VP of sales at Stanley Tools running daily operations and managing strategic plans for major big box home centers. David graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a bachelor’s degree in business and received his MBA from Wake Forest University’s School of Business.

David played division 1 collegiate baseball and was the 40th round draft pick of the Montreal Expos professional baseball organization in the June 1990 free agent draft. He coaches baseball with his two boys and enjoys swimming, cycling and running.

AARON AZEVEDO, VP OF PRODUCT

As VP of product, Aaron leads the design, engineering, and product marketing functions at SKLZ in an effort to ensure that every SKLZ product represents the best solution for the athlete’s needs. With decades of global manufacturing experience, Aaron also works to maintain and improve the sourcing base and supply chain efforts. He joined SKLZ after serving 3 years as SVP of Footwear at Quiksilver where he led the product creation process and supply chain for DC Shoes. Aaron has over 20 years of product creation and manufacturing experience with powerful brands including Reebok, The North Face, Coach, Saucony, Zoot, and Quiksilver. Aaron graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design.

Aaron has been a runner and cyclist for years, and is a 4-time Ironman triathlon finisher. He and his wife Donna regularly enjoy an outdoor and fitness lifestyle.

LAURA WOLF STEIN, VP OF MARKETING

As VP of Marketing, Laura is responsible for establishing and driving the global marketing plan for SKLZ. She oversees strategy and execution of the entire marketing mix to ensure the SKLZ story is consistently delivered to athletes who care about training.

Laura honed her marketing skills through a stint at an early internet start-up in San Francisco and then eleven years at Sony in both Los Angeles and San Diego. Laura held marketing leadership positions at Sony Pictures, Sony Direct Sales (E-Commerce and retail) and the Home Entertainment and Sound Division. She has managed every aspect of the marketing mix from retail marketing with accounts such as Amazon and Best Buy to major product launches (including 4K Ultra HD, Internet TV, and 3D TV) to integrated social and digital campaigns. Her reputation at Sony was highlighted by the partnerships she developed with entities such as ESPN, Google, the Spider-man movies and the James Bond franchise. Laura completed her undergraduate degree in History and Latin American Studies at Princeton University and holds Masters degrees in Global Media and Communications from the London School of Economics and USC.

Laura is a former Division I volleyball player at Princeton. She is a runner, hiker, yogi, and cyclist and is involved with Girls on the Run, Run Women Run, and WISE. She is married with two young daughters and lives in Point Loma.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

JIM CACCAVO, EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

Jim is the Executive Chairman for SKLZ and the Founder and Managing General Partner at Steelpoint Capital Partners. He has successfully managed transactions across every business sector and brings experience around branding, expanding distribution, generating and sustaining sales growth, and structuring efficient and effective sales and marketing organizations. Prior to forming Steelpoint, Jim was the Managing Director of Moore Capital Management's Private Equity Group and also served in various C level operating roles with the last being the President and CEO of tickets.com. Jim holds a B.S. in Economics and Finance from the University of Scranton.

Jim is very passionate about health and fitness and has played many sports throughout his life. Currently, Jim enjoys surfing, snowboarding, weight lifting, and general fitness.

JOHN SARKISIAN, VICE CHAIRMAN & FOUNDER

John’s entrepreneurial career was originally built in real estate and restaurant development. John formerly led Pat and Oscar's restaurants, a company with 14 restaurants in Southern California and Arizona that was sold to a public company in 2000. John was a founding investor and lead the growth of Semtek Innovative Solutions prior to it’s sale to Verifone, Inc. John is currently the founding investor and Board Member of BrightScope. John graduated from the University of Michigan where he received a bachelor's degree in economics, and then attended San Diego State University’s MBA program. John is a Board Member of the YMCA of San Diego County, serves as the Board Chair of San Diego Sports Innovators, and is a Board Member of LEAD San Diego, EDC and CONNECT.

John is an avid cyclist and enjoys spending time with his wife and four children.

Tim is the Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer for Steelpoint Capital Partners. GARRETT POTTER, BOARD MEMBER

Garrett is a board member for SKLZ and a Managing Director at Steelpoint Capital Partners. At Steelpoint, Garrett oversees investments in branded consumer companies, including apparel, hard goods and e-commerce. Garrett has a diverse background in corporate finance and operations working with companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500. Prior to joining Steelpoint, Garrett served as a lead advisor for a mid-market investment banking firm, advising small business owners and CEO's on growth and exit strategies while leading M&A and fundraising transactions across a variety of industries. Garrett began his career with a global aerospace and defense company, where he held several senior finance positions focused around strategic financial planning and corporate development. Garrett graduated summa cum laude from San Diego State University with a B.S. in Finance and M.S. in Accounting.

Garrett played competitive sports through high school and is currently an avid youth coach for baseball, soccer, football, and basketball. He enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.

BARON HERDELIN-DOHERTY, BOARD MEMBER

Baron has more than 30 years of YMCA experience spanning seven different YMCA associations across the United States. Before joining the YMCA of San Diego County as President and CEO in October 2010, Baron served as President and CEO of the YMCA of greater San Antonio for seven years. During the seven years, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, under Baron's leadership, built eight new YMCAs and remodeled four YMCAs. Prior to his leadership role in San Antonio, Baron was COO/Senior Vice President at the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region. His experience serving as a Group Vice President for the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. Baron began his YMCA career after completing his Bachelor of Arts degree at Auburn University. Along with his YMCA responsibilities, he has been an active community leader and volunteer in each of the communities where he has lived.

In his free time, Baron enjoys spending time with his wife, Lisa, their son, Ethan, and baby, Lilly. Baron loves the outdoors and enjoys triathlons and participating in bicycle tours.
