SKLZ Team Scores 10 Summer Interns

Our summer interns are officially at SKLZ HQ for the summer. We sat down with each of them to get to know more about them on and off of the field, court and pitch. Here's the scoop:

TEAM: Business

PLAYER: Marc Everds

Marc is currently working toward his MBA at the University of San Diego. He’s an experienced surfer and spends each Memorial Day running his own surf contest, The Del Mar Surf Classic.

  • What is your favorite sport? Surfing
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer? To learn as much as I can from Brian (SKLZ President) this summer.
  • What is one random fact about yourself? I was back-to-back under 10 National Champion in barefoot water skiing.

TEAM: Finance

PLAYER: Sean Garrido

Sean is a senior at the University of Arizona earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance. For four years running, Sean served as captain of his high school football team. This past summer Sean interned at Independent Capital Management Inc. He has experience with nonprofits in his former roles as a Financial and Administrator Assistant for the Mary Y Nino Foundation and as a Financial Planning and Research Analyst at the DBMH Project. He was also elected Recruitment Chair for the CHIMES Junior Honorary.

  • What is your favorite sport? Football
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer? To learn about SKLZ's financial operations and be more involved in the sports industry.
  • What is one random fact about yourself? I am a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and used to workout at the same facility as my favorite Steeler, Troy Polamalu. I got a picture with him and he signed my Polamalu jersey.

TEAM: Marketing

PLAYER: Blaire Bender

Blaire is entering her senior year at the University of Oregon majoring in Public Relations with minors in Computer Information Technology and Business Administration. She is currently a digital strategist in the Quack Cave – the first social media command center in collegiate sports – at the Oregon Athletic Department. This past fall she interned in Arizona at the Fiesta Bowl working on projects for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. Her first two years at Oregon she played club lacrosse and currently serves as a Nike Brand Ambassador for the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco.

  • What is your favorite sport? College football
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer? To join the SKLZ team and create some cool projects that will impact the industry.

TEAM: Marketing

PLAYER: Tyler Semerdjian

This past May, Tyler graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration with a Marketing emphasis from the University of Colorado Boulder, Leeds School of Business. He co-founded Topsesh.com, a social networking website that connects athletes and companies within the surf, skate, snow and bike industry. In addition, he co-founded Zelli Nutrition, a natural food startup geared toward providing sustainable energy bars. He also founded the Athletic Business Club on campus, which he helped grow to more than 650 members.

  • What is your favorite sport? Surfing
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer?  To work with the experienced SKLZ team members and learn all that encompasses building a strong brand.
  • What is one random fact about yourself? I have surfed 20 ft. waves in Hawaii and enjoy long walks on the beach.

TEAM: Operations

PLAYER: Derick Delucchi

A rising senior at the University of San Diego, Derick is working toward a B.A. in Business Administration. He is a cornerback on the USD Football team and enjoys hunting, fishing, surfing and golfing. Aside from athletics, Derick is an experienced landscaper, spending the last few summers working for his family’s ranch.

  • What is your favorite sport? Football and baseball
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer? To gain experience and learn about the kinds of operations go into running a successful company.
  • What is one random fact about yourself? I like to hunt.

TEAM: Product (Design/Engineering)

PLAYER: Michael Wu

Michael is earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and spent last summer at Vocollect Inc. as a Quality Engineering Intern. In high school, Michael played varsity football.

  • What is your favorite sport? Basketball
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer? To apply what I’ve learned in school to the sports industry.
  • What is one random fact about yourself? I play golf with my right but everything else with my left.

TEAM: Product (Development)

PLAYER: Josh Ledgerwood

Josh is entering his sophomore year at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he’s working toward a B.S. in Materials Engineering. As a San Diego native, Josh played many sports in high school. Along with his interest in sports, he is also a freelance graphic designer.

  • What is your favorite sport? Soccer
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer? To form new friendships and work in a sporty, fun and professional environment. I look forward to learning applicable lessons that I will be able to carry with me.
  • What is one random fact about yourself? I was born and raised in San Diego and have lived in the same house my entire life.

TEAM: Product (Management/Marketing):

PLAYER: Parker Lawlor

A recent graduate of Pacific Ridge, Parker will play lacrosse at Middlebury College in Vermont this fall. In high school, he was captain of his varsity team for three years and made the All-Coastal Conference lacrosse team three times. In addition to being a leader on the field, he was Senior Class President and a member of the National and Chinese honor’s societies.

  • What is your favorite sport? Lacrosse
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer? To be around people who are just as passionate about sports as I am.
  • What is one random fact about yourself? I love boats.

TEAM: Sales

PLAYER: Teddy Simonson

Teddy is a senior at the University of San Diego, earning a B.A. in Business Administration. He is passionate about fitness and training, and loves researching new training techniques. Last summer he interned with Morgan Stanley, working under the Senior VP Financial Analyst. He has also spent many summer months as a Lifeguard Supervisor at the Tucson Country Club. In 2013, Teddy served as president of his fraternity.

  • What is your favorite sport? Weight-lifting, but I also enjoy swimming and hockey.
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer? To learn about the athletic training industry and to gain in-depth knowledge in a field that I'm very passionate about. I’m also excited to work in one of coolest facilities that I've ever seen.
  • What is one random fact about yourself? I’m pretty good at handstands and yoga poses despite not being very flexible.

TEAM: International Sales

PLAYER: Devon Roeper

A native of San Diego, Devon is a sophomore at Columbia University. She is studying Political Science and Economics and plays forward on the Women’s Basketball team. In high school, Devon received a McDonald’s High School All-America nominee and also played varsity lacrosse. This is Devon’s second season as an intern at SKLZ.

  • What is your favorite sport? Basketball
  • What are you most excited about for the internship this summer? To combine my passion for sports and international relations.
  • What is one random fact about yourself? I have passion for traveling and exploring new places and cultures.
